Students from diverse backgrounds and experiences arrive at school daily, each with unique strengths and individualized learning needs. As an educator and administrator, I consistently gleaned invaluable insights from every classroom encounter with my students. It often surprised me how much I learned in the process. Each interaction was a profound learning experience.
At some point in children’s lives, they learn to view themselves as either smart, dumb or anywhere in between. T his perception creates a barrier between the so-called ‘smart’ and ‘dumb.’ As educators, it is our responsibility to dismantle this barrier and create a conducive learning environment where all students can maximize their potential. Stanford researchers, notably Dweck and her colleagues, advocate instilling a growth mindset as the key to achieving this goal.
Teachers are using technology to make teaching more engaging. The increasingly flexible delivery of instruction and submission of home assignments provide multiple pathways and opportunities to refine and reform the teaching and learning experience.
The focus of education must be on the active participation of students to prepare them for future challenges. There must be concerted efforts to enrich the learning experience. The emphasis must be on meaningful engagement, creation, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration.
The power and the potential of technologies to expand connections and enrich human society are indubitable achievements of the technological revolution. The 21st century is known as a knowledge-based society for unprecedented and revolutionary advancements in every possible domain, from space to medicine.
Education today is learner-driven, diversified, and differentiated, which addresses the diversified needs of the global world and moves countries and individuals to a path of economic self-sufficiency.
